Happy August, everyone! We hope that all of your summers are going well. August marks the end of summer for students and teachers (schools starts on the 27th), so we hope that those of you getting ready to head back to school have a wonderful start to the school year.
Here are ten events happening in Southern Pines this month that you won’t want to miss:
August 1: Hummingbird Banding Mornings at Weymouth Woods SNP
Experience a hummingbird morning at Weymouth Woods! Now that juvenile hummers are appearing, they should be banding good numbers of birds through the end of the month. Be sure to be on-hand early since that is when feeding activity is highest (and, thus, trapping is more successful).
August 1: Open House at 205 Selkirk Trail, Southern Pines
Open House from 11:30AM to 1:30PM at 205 Selkirk Trail in Southern Pines with lunch provided by Amanda Stevens of OVM Financial!
August 2: New Teacher Welcome Bag Stuffing Event
Grab a friend and come join this year’s sponsors, Sand & Pine magazine, to sort and stuff gift totes for Moore County’s 120 newest teachers. It’s a fun gathering of public school teacher supporters harnessing the generosity of our local community!
August 2: Summer Classic Movie Series at Sunrise Theater: Hocus Pocus
Hocus Pocus starts at 7:30pm and is just $6. Doors open at 6:30, so come early, get some popcorn and a drink, and enjoy the show!
August 2: Music Bingo at Rudino’s
Head to Rudino’s for an amazing night of music, prizes, and drink specials. Test your music knowledge and compete against your friends and other patrons at Music Bingo at Rudino’s Pizza & Grinders in Southern Pines. It’s easy to play, and everyone is welcome!
August 3: First Fridays with the Ben Miller Band
Bring the whole family for a night of free music with Ben Miller Band. They were here in ’17 and they’re coming back again! These guys are literally touring the USA and the WORLD this summer, and we’re their last stop in the states before they head over the pond!
August 14: Pedals & Pints
Give your bike some love and enjoy the fun with everyone. Pull out is at 6pm and the ride is around 5-6 miles (about 45 mins). Afterwards, come back for some food and cold beers!
August 18: Backyard Bocce Bash
The Backyard Bocce Bash to benefit Sandhills Children’s Center will take place at the National Athletic Village in Southern Pines. Get your team of 4 together and come have fun at this big tailgate party with a bit of bocce being played.
