There are so many exciting events happening around Moore County this month. Here are a few we think you won’t want to miss!
December 7 – 10: Weymouth Christmas Open House
Kick off your holiday season with a walk through the beautiful Boyd mansion and stables decked in all their glory! View the work of local and regional designers, garden clubs, and community organizations. This Sandhills tradition reflects an era when the Boyds entertained family, friends, and the community in their lovely home.
December 7: Aberdeen Tree Lighting
Witness the lighting of the Christmas tree and the arrival of Santa with performances by the Southern Middle School choir and the Bethesda Hand Bells choir. Free.
December 8 – 10: Christmas at the Shaw House
Enjoy old-time decorations, warm apple cider, and homemade cookies at the annual Christmas Open House. Tour three house-museums built during the 1700s and 1800s. The event is free to the public to let people see how early Southern Pines and Sandhills residents lived.
December 9: Christmas Carriage Parade
Don’t miss one of the area’s most loved Christmas events. Members of The Moore County Driving Club comes dressed in their finest Christmas attire and are decorated in traditional or themes.
December 9: Aberdeen Christmas Parade
The parade starts at 11 am in downtown Aberdeen.
December 9: Free Family & Pet Photos with Santa
Get a photo with Santa and the ENTIRE family (furry friends included!). Donations Accepted. Cat Food Donations Needed (Friskie Can Shreds, Purina Complete, Purina Kitten Chow)
December 9: OPEN HOUSE AT 101 CENTRAL DRIVE FROM 1PM – 4PM

December 10: 40th Annual Candlelight Tour of Homes
The Episcopal Day School Candlelight Tour of Homes has become an enduring holiday tradition in the Sandhills, providing guests from around the region (and beyond) the chance to tour six gorgeous homes decked out in holiday finery. Tickets may be purchased in advance for $20.00 in the EDS office M-F from 8am-3pm or at any of these fine local outlets: The Given Book Shop, Country Bookshop, Lady Bedford’s Tea Parlour, and Thyme & Place Cafe. Tickets will be $25.00 on the day of the event.
December 15: 2nd Annual Ugly Sweater Party
Get ready for Legends Bar & Grill’s Ugly Sweater Party! Wear your ugliest sweater for a chance to win prizes!
December 16: Couples Craft Night
Bring a partner or friend, make a beautiful 4′ tall JOY sign, and taste fabulous hors d’oeuvres that Leslie has whipped up in the Thyme and Place Café kitchen. Beer, wine and mimosas extra but will be available at the café. Water, tea and coffee included. Pre-registration required at Gracefully Rustic.
December 16: Crafts and Cocoa
All 6-10th graders are invited to join the Southern Pines Library Crafts & Cocoa event. Relax, sip hot cocoa, and create your own snow globe and other crafts at this holiday edition of TRAIL (Teens Reading and Investigating Life).
December 16: Christmas Movie & Snow Spectacular
The Arc of Moore County presents Christmas Movie & Snow Spectacular on December 16th. Elf the movie will be shown at the Sunrise Theater. There will also be cookies, hot chocolate, food for sale from the Dawg Wagon. Activites will include a Bouncy house, meeting Santa and a sing-a-long before the viewing of Elf! Best of all playing in the SNOW!
December 18: Holiday Jazz Concert
Enjoy the music of the season at this intimate Jazz Concert, featuring a quintet of excellent NC Jazz Musicians! Holiday punch, wine, hors d’oeuvres, chocolate chip cookies and gingerbread reception to follow.
December 20: Free Showing of The Polar Express
Take a break from the hustle and bustle of Christmas to see a free showing of this holiday classic! Doors open at 5:45.
December 21: North Carolina Symphony – A Classic Holiday Pops
Join the North Carolina Symphony for this spectacular holiday celebration filled with joyful symphonic arrangements of Christmas classics and beloved holiday melodies.
December 27: Celtic Christmas in Southern Pines
Jamie Laval’s Celtic Christmas captures the beauty and atmosphere of Scotland, Ireland, Brittany, and Iceland during the holidays. An entertaining and thought-provoking family holiday experience, the show weaves a tapestry of music, dance, poetry, and stories which hearken back to the ancient Celtic celebrations associated with the Winter Solstice and Christmas.
December 31: First Eve in Southern Pines
Bring family and friends for a Winter Wonderland for all ages as we ring in the New Year early as we countdown to the Pinecone Drop at 8:00 pm. The event is held in Downtown Southern Pines featuring live music, carnival games, face painting and much more!
